Holy Cow

Holy Cow by David Duchovny

(Yes, I know, I promised this ages ago…but it’s here now!)

This is the story of Elsie Bovary, a cow on a farm. For a long time she is happy on this farm doing her thing with the other cows until she discovers what life on the farm really means for animals like her. This leaves her with only one option and that is to escape.

I adored this book (I also adore David Duchovny…so…yeah…no bias here)!!!

It was completely insane and hilarious. It was a quick read and fairly easy read, great for those of us with packed schedules, desperately trying to find time to fill the reading void. I laughed. I cried. I grinned stupidly in public. And I will definitely read this book again. All of the antics and the situations that the animals find themselves are are just down right crazy. This whole book was crazy. But I loved it!!! I do suggest forgetting any semblance of reality while reading this book and just going along for the ride.

Though I do feel that as wild and unbelievable as many of the situations are, the book does offer the reader something about our society and culture today. It’s silly and thought provoking…a two for one deal!

End of Event Meme

  1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
I think it was around Hour 20 that was the toughest for me. I started to get real sleepy and sluggish.
  2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
Holy Cow by David Duchovny was a good one. It was funny and not particularly deep. It would have been better if I had waited to read it until later on in the Read-a-thon though.
  3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
    I thought everything was great!
  4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
I loved everything about this year. It was my second time doing the Read-a-thon. I had a better grasp on what was going on and what I was doing. And I even got a lot of Cheerleader comments!
  5. How many books did you read?
I read five books. 2 novels, 3 graphic novels
  6. What were the names of the books you read?
    Holy Cow by David Duchovny
    Fool Moon by Jim Butchers
The Walking Dead Vol. 9-12 by Robert Kirkman
  7. Which book did you enjoy most?
It’s a toss up between Holy Cow and Fool Moon
  8. Which did you enjoy least?
I guess the Walking Dead. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy them at all. I just didn’t like them as much as the others.
  9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
  10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
I will most definitely participate in the next Read-a-thon!! I love it so much and it was so much fun, reading and hosting a mini-challenge. Next time though,  I’d like to do a combination of reading and cheerleading. Hosting a mini challenge was a lot of fun and I’m so glad people participated and had fun with it but I’d like to try all aspects of the Read-a-thon.NOW IT’S SLEEP TIME!!! YAY!

Fading….

Only four hours left and I can feel myself fading…sleep beckons to me!

God-I-need-to-sleep

I’m starting to get super goofy now. Delirious! Oh lord… this is going to be a long four hours. I’m almost done with my second book. Truly, I am. I’m a little disappointed that I haven’t read more but not really at the same time. Combined the two books equal out to about 600 pages…I think that’s good. After this I’m switching to graphic novels to give myself some sort of break.

Be Fit Readers

I’ve been getting up and moving all day. I did just take the dog out for a walk around the yard and will do so again here soon, I’m sure. And I’m sure I’ll also be up and dancing around again at some point. There’s only so long I can stay sitting lol!! Make sure to move everyone! It’ll keep you from being extra achy tomorrow.

Holy Cow!

Done with my first book for the Read-a-thon!!! Whoooo!!! Holy Cow by David Duchovny. It was excellent. I’ll post a book review of it here in the next week or so (it’s the last week of classes so I’m not sure when exactly I’ll get to it). Now onto the next book after a break! Probably Fool Moon by Jim Butcher but I haven’t fully decided yet…

Classic Words of Wisdom

I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will, which I now exert to leave you.” –Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte

Jane Eyre has been one of my favorite books for a long time. It was the first classic book that I read with a strong female character that I felt like I could really relate too. I know the classics all reflect the times that they were written in but it was nice to see a strong women. A woman that I could look up to. Jane Eyre was a good beginning for strong women to look up to. She stuck to her guns and stayed true to herself. You go girl!! I was a teenager when I first read this book so that was particularly important to me. Being a teenager is filled with so much pressure to do things and be things that aren’t exactly true to who you are or you’re not sure if it’s true to yourself yet. Reading this book helped my with a lot of those struggles and it’s continued to help me as an adult. I still go back and reread this book every now and then.
